Professor Dr. Khondoker Bazlul Hoque

Khondoker Bazlul Hoque is a Professor (Honorary) at the Department of International Business, University of Dhaka. He did his M.Com in Management (topped the list) in 1967 and did PhD in Economics from the Institute of Plekhanov, Moscow in 1982. He did his post doctoral at the Institute of Developing Economies Tokyo, Japan in 1993. He was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship (Senior Fellowship) in the year 1994 and taught in Indian – Purdue University, Indiana, USA. He received Distinguished Leadership Award, American Biographical Institute, Indiana, USA in 1990. He authored 2 books published from IDE, Tokyo, Japan and co-authored 6 books(5 published in Bangladesh and 1 from India). He has to his credit more than 50 research articles published in reputed journals of home and abroad which include USA, USSR, India, South Korea, Nepal, Taiwan, Portugal and Bangladesh. 5 Ph. D scholars and 14 M Phil students got their degrees under his supervision. He has also examined more than 50 Ph. D theses at home and abroad. He is a member of the Editorial Board, Encyclopedia of Bangladesh War of Liberation. He was also a member of the Editorial Board, National Encyclopedia of Bangladesh – ‘Banglapedia, published by Asiatic Society of Bangladesh in 2003 (1st Edition). He was Editor, Dhaka University Journal Part C (1989-1991).
Currently he is engaged as Group Editor (Economy and Society) in updating Banglapedia (3rd Edition)
He joined the teaching profession in 1967 and during his long teaching and research career, he held many important positions in the university and outside. He was the chairman of 2 Departments and Provost of 2 Halls of Dhaka University. He was a member of the syndicate (3 terms), member of finance committee (3 terms) and member of senate (6 terms) of Dhaka University. He was the Dean, Faculty of Commerce during the session 1989-91. He was Vice Chancellor (Honorary) North-Western University for 4 years (2012-2016). He was elected President of Dhaka University Teachers' Association for 2 terms (2009 and 2010) and also the President of Federation of Bangladesh Teachers’ Association for 2 terms (2009 and 2010). He is a former member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission. He was also the Chairman of Agrani Bank Limited – a large state owned commercial bank of Bangladesh for 5 years.
He is a freedom fighter, At present, he is a member of the Advisory Council, – Bangladesh Awami League.
He is a well travelled man. In connection with his academic and research works he visited about 30 countries of the world which include India, Pakistan, USA, South Africa, UK, U.SSR. Japan, France, Italy, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Czechoslovakia, YogoSlavia, Taiwan, China, Nepal, South Korea, Portugal, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Maldives, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Belgium and Turkey etc.
